A triptych Asakusa Okuyama ikiningyo, “Living Dolls of Asakusa’s Okuyama.” These life-size figures were made from papier-mache with bamboo frames by Matsumoto Kisaburo from Kumamoto and were evidently amazingly life-like. The subjects were foreign strangers and Maruyama courtesans. The exhibition was in February 1855 in an area that had many sideshows. Kuniyoshi also produced prints of this and other exhibitions. Published by Murataya Ichigoro, 1855.Extremely rare.
Fine impression, colour and condition. Signed Yoshitsuna ga.
